Exercise and Pregnancy

Exercise is almost always encouraged in pregnancy because of the beneficial properties it offers to both the pregnant woman and the baby. As long as there are no problems or complications in the pregnancy, it is recommended that the pregnant woman continue her previous activities by abstaining exerting with dumbbells, and also to avoid severe strain during aerobic exercise. Exercise for pregnant women helps reduce many of the discomforts and tensions you may experience during pregnancy (such as lower back pain), improves your energy and helps you feel good emotionally.

Exercise strengthens and tones the muscles, some of which you will use during labor and childbirth. It also increases blood circulation between you and your baby.

 

If a pregnant lady who did not exercise before pregnancy, it is recommended to start a gentle exercise program for pregnant women under the guidance of a midwife or a specialised trainer. Indicatively the permitted exercise methods are yoga, pilates, swimming and any exercises performed inside water, all modified for pregnancy. Please remember, security first. While exercising is an important factor for you and your baby, you should always take precautions.
